RIVER TRENT – GB

Join us on a 3 day Skills Camp on the River Trent learning everything there is to know about traditional and UK catfishing. From building rigs, watercraft skills and learning methods like breakline, stone, Bouys, and vertical angling where you will become a much more knowledgeable angler by day 3.

You will be taught 1-on-1 or in a group of 3 by Harry South, a qualified angling coach and founder of CAT-TEX, 15 years catfishing experience with 80% of it being on rivers! We understand that everyone learns differently, so our approach is tailored to you. Don’t worry, Harry has many years of teaching experience and promises by the end you will retain the information you have learnt and will have you being 100% more knowledgeable and ready for a European Skills Camp.

Mastering watercraft skills is a core part of angling and even more so when it comes to river angling. Deploying a breakline within a Still-water is child’s play compared to learning how to set lines on a rising or falling river, different swirl patters, flow and water temperatures fluctuating.  You will learn to navigate the river like a pro and will learn everything about boat safety and blind night navigation. You will learn the importance of hook positioning, materials required to build the best rigs and of course, catfish safety.

You’ll actively participate in every aspect, from choosing your tackle to what bait you use. It’s all about learning through practice leading you to a much greater experience that will expand your knowledge and allow you to become a better angler.

Please contact us via the form below if you have any questions. Further below are a number of frequently asked questions in 2023 from customers before they joined the skills camp.

Is the skills camp like a guiding or part-guiding service? No, the skills camp is not a guiding or part-guiding service. We do not do the work for you by setting up at locations ready to catch, and we do not bait locations. We won’t even tell you where to target. Instead, we teach you to do this for yourself and build your confidence and abilities with you to make that decision. We cover every method of catfish angling, from breakline to vertical. Don’t worry, if we feel you are wrong in your decision, then we will revisit the key areas that you did not absorb and start again. Remember, your success on the skills camp is a reflection of our knowledge and ability to teach, so it is our main priority that you succeed no matter how many times we revisit a subject.

Is the Skills camp like a holiday or much more extreme? Our UK catfishing skills camp is not for the weak; it is a camp that demands your full attention as well as your physical and mental strength. We push our anglers to their limits, challenging them to become a product of their own environment and only a successful one at that.

What river is the skills camp on? We do not have specific rivers for our skills camp for a very good reason unless specified. Our program is designed to be mobile and flexible, just as catfish anglers should be. And so, we offer a number of regional locations only. These include but are not limited to the Rhine, Loire, Po, Ebro, Neckar, Seine, Vistula, Trent and Rhone. Again, the Skills Camp is not a guiding service.

What is the success rate of the skills camp? Our success rate is very high, with anglers becoming skilled at solo angling and targeting catfish and catching over 230cm. However, it is important to remember that success is not just handed out; it is earned through hard work, dedication, and a willingness to push yourself beyond your limits. One of our main rules at the skills camp that resonates with anglers is that you will not be allowed to take a personal photo with any catfish unless you have caught it yourself, for yourself.

Will I be taught the same skills on the 3-day course? Yes, our 3-day skills camp on the River Trent is the perfect option for anglers within the UK who are unsure if it is for them or not and may have never been on a river. Many anglers tend to start on the 3-day camp and then progress to the 7 and 14-day skills camp across Europe. This allows you to experience river catfishing with little travel and expense compared to a European tour.

Additional Benefits

In addition to the comprehensive training, all CAT-TEX Skills Camp will receive a tackle bundle. This bundle is tailored to your UK catfishing camp, ensuring you’re equipped with the right tackle to continue developing your skills.
